Lyon Festival of Lights
Saint-Paul Train Station
Fourvière Hill
69000 Lyon

As part of the Lyon Festival of Lights 2023, Rencontres Audiovisuelles are coming to Lyon for the 3rd year running with 4 new creations to discover on the facade of the Saint-Paul Train Station and, for the first time, a mapping on the Fourvière Hill – one of the Festival’s most emblematic spots!

SAINT-PAUL TRAIN STATION: NOUVELLE VAGUE

Video mapping created by Rencontres Audiovisuelles as part of a creation residency supervised by artist Julian Hölscher.

▶ LIFE BEFORE LIFE
The beating of a heart stops, and it is at that precise moment that everything begins.
Life before life tells the story of the journey of a soul, freed from its physical body through the multiple dimensions of the cosmos. This journey alows it to remember who it is and where it comes from. This initiatory path will take it back home to the place it had lost all memory of: the infinite, loving arms of the cosmos. But once it has returned to the source, it will once again feel the call to descend to Earth to continue to incarnate and learn with love, always.

Direction and animation: Pia VIDAL
Original music: Léopold CORDIER

▶ BANGARANG MANIFESTO
This is a graphic tale of dissonance and silence, jumble and order, orthodoxy and avant-garde. The Master Clockmaker likes everything to be in its rightful place, so when the space becomes the scene of a colourful and festive carnival, he does all he can to chase away the troublemakers.

Direction and animation: Simon Lazarus 84
Original music: S8jfou

▶ SOMETHING SHOULD BE HAPPENING
A piece about the relational interstice, about the acceleration and imbalance of a contrasting perception of time. On harmony, a harmonica and monsters: a round trip with IA.

Direction and animation: Ludovic BURCZYKOWSKI
Original music: Géraldine KWIK

▶ A TRAIN OF THOUGHTS
A train arrives at the station and all the passengers are rushing to get on. Except for Paul, who stands out from the crowd. His steps are slow, and he stands still while the other passengers continue on their way, leaving him alone. Having reached the end of his physical journey, he is forced to embark on an inner journey. The facade of the station feels Paul’s discomfort and his mind and reflects it back to him and the audience.

Direction and animation: Laurence DE WILDE
Original music: Géraldine KWIK

FOURVIÈRE HILL

Video mapping created by Franck DION for Rencontres Audiovisuelles.

▶ CEUX DU FLEUVE
Between the meandering waters of the Saône and the imposing architecture on the Fourvière Hill, we are invited to lose ourselves in wandering dreams. During the night, imaginary creatures come and visit sleeping people, sharing in the adventure of sleep and creating collective images and dreams! Behind the facades of houses, when everyone falls asleep next to their cell phones, imaginations run riot and re-enact strange scenes, against a background of music that adds a fine depth to the images. Thanks to the soft, colourful design, we see ourselves in a different light. This evocation, blending seamlessly into the environment, keeps us very much awake in the here and now.

Direction and animation: Franck DION
Original music: Linnea OLSSON
